By Heather M Williams and Ruthin Clock Tower Restoration Committee.
Welcome to this book which gives information about some of the history about Ruthin’s iconic Clock Tower, (also known as the Peers Memorial) who it was built for and why, and some explanation as to why restoration work took place during the latter part of 2024. In the early 1880s a small committee was set up in Ruthin to develop a project to thank Joseph Peers who had been Clerk to the Justices of the Peace for fifty years. Come forward 140 years and a group of local people started looking at the Clock Tower afresh and realised that, although in no danger of falling down, the iconic clock tower was in need of some attention. Just as in the 1880s, in the 2020s a small committee was set up made up of Ruthin Town Councillors and members of the community who have a keen interest in the important heritage of the town.
