Citizen of the Year

Citizen of the Year Awards 2025 – 2026

The award ceremony was held at St Peters Church on Wednesday 22nd April. Mayor, Cllr Peter Daniels welcomed guests and winners.

Mr David Jones, the High Sherriff of Clwyd awarded Ms Daisy Brown the Young Person of the Year awarded for her volunteering and contributions to wildlife and biodiversity in the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley.

The Mayoress, Mrs Kathy Daniels awarded Ms Mia Johnson the Sports Person of the Year award. Mia is an outstanding young athlete and competes at a national level in the 200m sprint event, recently having finished second in the English National Championship.

The Group of the Year was awarded by the Rev’d Luke Bristowe to Mrs Polly Snape and the Ruthin Youth Theatre who provided the audience with an entertaining “acceptance speech” as well as singing and dancing.

The Mayors Special Award, a new category for 2025 – 2026 was awarded by Cllr Peter Daniels to Sarah Harrison and the Young Carers Group. In making the award Cllr Daniels spoke about how moved he was by the group and all their good work that goes largely unrecognised.

Finally Cllr Daniels awarded the Rev’d Luke Bristowe with the Citizen of the Year Award. He had been nominated by Hannah Sherwood who spoke about Luke’s vast contribution to Ruthin as a whole, not just as a priest but all the other good work he carries out in the community.

Following the awards a buffet was enjoyed whilst being entertained again by the Youth Theatre.

All the winners received a framed certificate and a donation to a good cause in their name for £100.00.
